The Self Kelp Collection

Sometimes healing comes from out of the blue... when you let go of everything and when you least expect it!

The Self Kelp Collection was created on the wild coast of Tofino during a time when life felt a bit heavy and my creativity had faded. For several months, I had been carrying some stress and it felt like I was going through "artist's block".

I was not able to see the beauty around me until one summer day, the ocean reminded me.

On a glorious day exploring the Tofino inlets by boat—surrounded by glassy water, eagles, orcas, sea otters, seals, and endless raw coastline—I became drawn to the kelp drifting just below the surface. Its quiet rhythm, its feminine qualities, the way it flows, and its ability to bend without breaking. Interestingly, it also has the ability to protect sea otter pups from floating away in the current.

The more I photographed it, the more drawn I was and the more creative and "unstuck" I became. What followed, was the creation of brand new art collection, inspired by the kelp in the sea.

The name Self Kelp is a play on words, reflecting the ocean’s ability to heal. Every time I come to Tofino, it feels like my healing place and opens up the creative portal.

My hope is that these pieces bring you a sense of calm, wonder, and renewal they brought me while creating them.
